Cutting & Wear unveil plans for new purpose-built facility
Cutting & Wear, one of the leading global suppliers of innovative downhole tool technologies to oil service companies around the world, have announced the development of a brand new, purpose built manufacturing facility.
The new 3,500 sq m (38,000 sq ft) office and manufacturing plant will be set on a prime, 3-acre, landscaped site within the 50-acre Smithy Wood Business Park, near Chapeltown, Sheffield.
The site allows for a further 1,750 sq m (18,500 sq ft) production space to be added at a later date, as required. The new facility, which will be built to the latest environmental standards, will not only improve efficiency and streamline manufacturing processes, it will also enable the company to further develop its range of products and services.
The company will be able to handle components up to 30 feet in length, compared to a current maximum product length of 20 feet at the existing premises.
Commenting on the planned move Managing Director Mark Russell said:
“In 2006 the board set the goal of moving to a new facility as part of our strategy to develop a world class, technology based engineering company. We look forward to relocating to our new, state-of-the art manufacturing centre and the business benefits it will bring.
“As well as improving efficiencies across the company, the new HQ will help to project the quality of the Cutting & Wear brand to oil and gas drilling companies across the world. This is a major investment for the company and sets our course for the future.”
The company are not only investing in a new facility, but are also continuing to up-grade and expand its machining and hardfacing capacity. Last autumn they took delivery of a new 5-axis machining centre, and have recently installed an additional 3.5m milling machine.
These latest investments will ensure that Cutting & Wear are able to meet forecast demand for the coming year.
